How it works
How Settlemint works, start to finish.
A transparent process, from your first conversation with us through repayment at resolution. Your attorney helps coordinate, but the funding agreement is always between you and Settlemint.
The Path
From first call to final resolution
Our process is designed to meet you where you are. Every step starts with your consent. Every dollar flows to your attorney's trust account. Every decision about your case stays with you and your counsel. The only thing Settlemint does is fund the work. So you can focus on getting to the right outcome.
Steps 1–3: Inquiry to decision
Initial inquiry
You or your attorney reaches out. No paperwork at this stage. Just a conversation about whether we're a fit.
Application
With your authorization, your attorney submits the application and shares the case details we need.
Review and decision
We review the case on its merits, not your credit, income, or employment. Initial views typically done within 24 to 48 hours.
Steps 4–6: Documents to resolution
Documentation
If approved, we send funding documents to review. We recommend reviewing them with independent counsel before signing.
Funding during your case
Funding goes to your attorney's trust account, billed against as the case progresses. Additional funding can be added as needed.
Repayment at settlement
Repayment comes from your share of the settlement outcome. No payments during the case. If you receive nothing, there's nothing to repay..
Roles
Who does what
The funding agreement is between you and Settlemint. Your attorney helps — but is never a party.
You
Hold the funding agreement with Settlemint. Authorize the application and sign the funding documents. Maintain your relationship with your attorney.
Your attorney
Helps coordinate at your direction, submits the application with your authorization, provides case information with your authorization, and bills against funds in trust as work is done. Never a party to the funding agreement, and never asked for attorney-client communications..
Settlemint
Reviews your case, makes funding available to your attorney's trust account, and supports the case as it develops. Stays out of the legal work.
Getting Started
What you'll need to begin
The main thing you need is a retained family law attorney. They'll coordinate with us on your case. Everything else, we can figure out together. If you don't have counsel yet, retaining an attorney is the first step. We can't fund a matter without one, and we don't fund the start of new matters - funding is available once a case is already underway.
